October 20th Is Purple Thursday

Purple Thursday is a day to take action every year during the month of October, which is designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year, Purple Thursday falls on Thursday, October 20th. It is an easy way to create awareness around domestic violence and demonstrate your commitment to the development of healthy relationships.

Demonstrate Awareness On Purple Thursday 2022

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and domestic violence continues to be a public epidemic crossing all lines of race, gender and sexual orientation. Every year over 10 million Americans are victim to domestic violence, which can take many different forms including verbal, emotional or physical violence.

On Thursday, October 20th, we encourage you to wear purple to show solidarity with those who have fallen victim to domestic violence. Help is available to to those that need it for themselves and their families either through the services we provide or the programs available throughout Essex County.

To participate in Purple Thursday on Thursday, October 20, please share a photo of you wearing purple and email it to splace@afsnj.org.
